Rubbish & Recycling

All Councils seem to have different rules regarding recycling.  Thank you for your assistance.

Here is a list of what can and cannot be recycled in South Norfolk

Please DO NOT put any food waste in the recycling bin.

What can I put in our recycling bin? (Green)

The following items can be recycled in our recycling bin.

     NO FOOD WASTE IN RECYCLING BIN PLEASE

All recycling must be:

  • clean – please rinse containers and do not put in any food leftovers
  • loose – please do not put anything in plastic bags or black bin liners
  • dry – please ensure the bin lid remains shut

 

Paper and cardboard

  • newspapers/magazines
  • leaflets
  • packaging card and cardboard
  • wrapping paper (clean & without adhesive tape, ribbons & glitter)
  • greeting cards
  • envelopes (including those with windows)
  • catalogues/telephone books
  • shredded paper
  • junk mail (without the plastic wrapping)
  • clean pizza boxes (free from food residue)

Metal tins, cans and foil

  • all steel and aluminium cans and tins
  • clean foil trays and containers
  • empty aerosol cans (No paint aerosols)
  • aluminium foil

Plastic containers

  • milk and drink bottles (lids on)
  • bathroom bottles (lids on including trigger and pump spray bottles)
  • food and ready meal trays (including black plastic trays)
  • fruit and vegetables punnets
  • yoghurt, cream and soup pots
  • ice cream and margarine tubs
  • toothpaste tubes

Food and drink cartons

  • milk cartons
  • juice cartons

Glass

  • glass bottles – lids on
  • glass jars – lids on

 What can’t go in your recycling bin

The following can’t be recycled:

  • plastic bags, cling film and junk mail bags -many supermarkets have collection points for these materials
  • plastic or foil based wrapping paper with adhesive tape, ribbon and glitter
  • crisp and sweet packets
  • food waste
  • pouches (baby and pet food)
  • toys (hard plastic)
  • polystyrene packaging
  • unopened recyclable items still containing food or liquids
  • flower and plant pots
  • DIY waste
  • nappies
  • window or mirror glass
  • drinking glasses
  • light bulbs
  • plastic engine oil bottles
  • textiles
  • wallpaper
  • sharps such as needles
  • garden waste
  • animal waste

GENERAL WASTE BIN (BLACK)

DOMESTIC RUBBISH ONLY

Please do not put anything other than normal domestic rubbish in our bins.

NO broken tents, tent poles, chairs, appliances, etc, etc.

Please take these home with you and dispose as you would at home.
